Demo contest's x-factor: GOP

Retired engineer Hector Garcia usually votes for Republicans in presidential contests. He didn't this year.

Walking away from an early voting machine at Christus Spohn Hospital Shoreline on Tuesday, he said he chose Sen. Barack Obama.

The reason? He doesn't much like Obama's rival, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, and the Republican nomination seems sewed up.

Much of the focus in the Democratic primary is on voter turnout in urban Harris and Dallas counties, where Obama is expected to do well, and Hispanic South Texas, where Clinton is expected to do well.

But there is another, less-explored constituency that could also alter the landscape: Republicans. With a widespread feeling that there is little to vote for in their own party during the primary, there is anecdotal evidence that many will flock to the Democratic primary because in Texas, voters can go to the polls in any party's primary.

R-rated games may be on shelves soon

The games industry has long argued that the censorship regime is unnecessarily draconian and prevents adults from making their own decisions as to the type of content they consume. It has called for the classification system to be harmonised across all types of media.

No jail for Plymouth man who torched his house

Butler, just before Christmas of 2006, argued with his wife kicking and pushing her before and ordering her and their five children out of the house.

Butler then torched the house, lighting several mattresses on fire and refused to come out while taunting firefighters from a window in the 122 Drew Road home.

He threw Christmas presents at firefighters and pushed ladders away from the home.

He was eventually overcome with smoke and firefighters were able to crawl through a second story window, locate him, and carry him, unconscious, down the ladder to a waiting ambulance.

Lt. Greg Kane and Firefighter Michael Morrill won awards for bravery following the harrowing incident.

Josee Butler and the couple's children initially went to Florida to stay with relatives, but have since returned.

Univision Battle With Televisa Places Programs in Jeopardy

A long-running feud between Univision Communications and the Mexican broadcaster that provides most of its programming is headed for a showdown in a federal court in Los Angeles. If Univision loses, it could see many of its prime-time shows yanked.

While a dispute over royalty payments is the source of the current dispute, tensions between the two companies date back to bad blood between Univisions former chief, A. Jerrold Perenchio, and the late Emilio Azcarraga Milmo, who felt he got a bad deal in 1992 when the two men negotiated the original contract. If the Mexican company, Grupo Televisa, wins and pulls its programming, Univisions enterprise value could be chopped by more than $1 billion.

The lawsuit centers on a program license agreement, or PLA, between Televisa, the dominant broadcaster in Mexico, and L.A.s Univision, the dominant Spanish-language TV network in the U.S.
