| Big ballgame ... well, for Feb. 29 it is
Sure feels more important than a Feb. 29 exhibition that no one will remember in four weeks or in four days, for that matter. Andruw's not here. Said he'd rather wait to get booed at Turner Field than get booed here and there. But I've got news for him: I'm willing to bet he's in the Julio Franco/Greg Maddux category in terms of return receptions in Atlanta, rather than the Tom Glavine category. In other words, I bet Andruw gets an ovation, even a standing ovation from most, when he comes back the first time to Turner. And why not? Dude played his posterior — ample as it might have been in latter years — off while winning 10 consecutive Gold Gloves, playing virtually every day, and hitting more than a few bombs for the Braves over the past decade-plus.
Obama Spends Heavily to Seek Knockout Blow
The intensity of Mr. Obama's drive is especially apparent on television, where he has outspent Mrs. Clinton by nearly two to one in the two states. That is helping him eat deeply into double-digit leads she held in polls just weeks ago. But after a month in which she raised $32 million a remarkable amount, but still less than the $50 million or more brought in by Mr. Obama Mrs. Clinton is fighting back. The expenditures of the two Democratic presidential candidates, combined with a travel schedule that sent them and their surrogates from border to border in Texas and Ohio, reflect the expectation that the voting this week may be climactic. Mrs. Clinton's advisers have suggested that she will bow out of the race if she falters in either state, after 11 straight losses.
McCain, Take Note on Media Treatment of Hillary
To me, this is the one place Obama is vulnerable to a Hillary attack: his lack of realism, bordering on outright deception. She certainly has no credibility to attack his robust liberalism. But instead of going after him on this, Hillary shrunk away from it as if she had been caught on tape in a dirty trick. Hillary said, "Well, I was having a little fun. You know, it's hard to find time to have fun on the campaign trail, but occasionally you can sneak that in." Bull. She wasn't trying to have fun. She was showcasing the absurdity of Obama's feigned messiahship and hitting him in the jugular. But under pressure and outside the comfort zone of her own campaign rally, she didn't have the courage to follow through and call him on his utopian nonsense. I'm not sure it would have done any good, but the cards were stacked against her anyway, so what did she have to lose? This is all ominous for John McCain because there is a common contributing factor in his and Hillary's previous electoral successes: They were both greatly aided by favorable MSM treatment.
City takes delivery of $550,000 ladder truck
Firefighter Dave Edgell tries out the new ladder truck. With its 75-foot reach, the ladder truck can offer assistance by fighting a fire from above. The truck can pump 2,000 gallons of water per minute, which will give firefighters a better grasp at knocking down the flames and in helping to contain a blaze.(Photo by Wayne Maris) .
